Length: 1 to 1.5m |
Diet They eat gazelles and other antelope; also hares, rodents, game birds and sometimes larger prey such as the zebra. Cheetahs do not roar but make purring and chirping noises. |
Identification They are identifiable by their slender, muscular bodies and the black 'tear' marks which run down the side of each cheek. |

Behaviour Females are normally solitary in the wild and males live in small groups, often consisting of brothers. Well known for being the fastest land animal in the world, the cheetah can reach speeds of over 60 mph.

Distribution & Habitat Once the cheetah's range ran from India, through the Middle East and extended to the very south of the African continent. Now the range is mauch reduced and numbers are estimated to be around 9,000. |

Reproduction After a 90 day pregnancy, females give birth to 1-6 cubs. The cubs stay with their mother until about 18 months old. |
Conservation This species is mainly threatened due to increased human activity through-out its range. |
