Diet

They have a varied diet, ranging from fungi and berries to insects and mice.

Identification

This small carnivore is related to pandas and raccoons. It has a reddish brown to grey colour coat and a long ringed tail.

Behaviour

Females and young may live in groups of up to 30 or so. Males are often solitary and are known as coati mundi.

 

Distribution & Habitat

Tropical forests of Central and South America as far south as Argentina

Reproduction

They have a gestation of around 75 days and can have 3 to 6 young (or kits) in a litter.
