Description

A large member of the kingfisher family, with a dagger-like beak for 'stabbing' at its prey. It has a brown back and a white or creamy under-side and sometimes blue markings on the wings.

Snakes, worms, snails, insects, lizards, frogs, small birds and rodents

Reproduction

They nest in holes in trees or riverbanks or in old termite mounds, laying a clutch of up to 4 eggs.
