Wood is a unique visitor experience. Four acres of mature woodland
where our lemurs live in an environment that is as close as possible
to that of the wild. Visitors have the opportunity to wander the woodland
and discover all about these rare and fascinating primates.

Daily tours
by the keepers guide visitors around the wood providing insight
into the world of lemurs, with information about their natural history,
management in captivity, and conservation issues.

| Lemurs
are prosimians or pre-monkeys - primitive species of primate found
only on the island of Madagascar and the neighbouring Comoros group
off the coast of South East Africa. |

Madagascar's
rich variety of wildlife habitats, including swiftly diminishing areas
of tropical rainforest, has been under threat for decades from human
encroachment and "slash & burn" agriculture. |
| Lemurs
are under grave threat in the wild. The Wildlife Park at Cricket St
Thomas plays an important part in co-operative international captive
breeding programmes aimed at conserving species and reintroducing
them to the wild. |

The Wildlife
Park at Cricket St Thomas is a member of the Madagascar
Fauna Group. - a consortium of some 30 zoos from around the
world, dedicated to conserving the wildlife of Madagascar.
