These parrots inhabit areas close to water in forests, savannahs, open country and swamps in regions up to 1,500 feet (500m), in pairs or flocks up to 100. They nest in holes of dead palm trees. }

Reproduction

Large Macaws almost never produce eggs before their 6th or 7th year, although they can display courtship rituals earlier to indicate they have bonded to a mate. Typical clutches contain 2 or 3 eggs which are incubated by the females for 25 days.

Conservation

Habitat destruction and capture for importation into the pet trade pose the main threat to this species.
