Identification
These horses are
of stocky build with slightly shorter legs than its typical domestic
cousin. The coat varies from dark brown around the mane (which stands
erect) to pale brown on the flanks and yellowish-white on the belly.
The legs of the Przewalski's Horse are often faintly striped. |

Behaviour
They live in
herds with a staliion and dominant mare with sub-ordiante females
and off-spring. At dawn, the herds returned to a desert habitat
to rest until the evening. As the horses moved between resting and
feeding areas, they walked in a line, forming deep, well trodden
paths.

Reproduction
After an 11- to
12-month pregnancy, a female gives birth to a single offspring. The
young can stand as soon as an hour after being born.

Conservation
Formerly extinct
in the wild they have been successfully reintroduced to their former
range in 2005, where approx. 300 horses no live. There are around
1500 in zoos globally.
